Exhibition support

At the National Archives of Scotland (NAS), the Conservation Services Branch (CSB) staff support the NAS exhibitions programme and assist with the preparation and mounting of in-house exhibitions and support requests from other organisations wishing to borrow records for exhibition.

The temperature, relative humidity and light levels within the display cases are controlled and carefully constructed supports provided to ensure the preservation of the items displayed. In the case of exceptionally fragile material, exhibition is limited or a facsimile image is used.

The NAS is willing to consider requests from organisations wishing to borrow items from our collections for exhibition. Consideration will be given to loan requests submitted at least six months in advance of the exhibition. Material from the NAS will only be loaned for display in locked exhibition cases and items will be couriered to the venue and placed in display cases by an NAS conservator. If an object from NAS collections is agreed to be loaned, the borrowing institution must meet all costs. Please complete the NAS Loan Request form below and send it to preservation@nas.gov.uk.
