| The National Archives of Scotland
(NAS) has two buildings in central Edinburgh, which are open to the
public: General Register House and West Register House. In addition,
the NAS has a building in the west of Edinburgh, Thomas Thomson House,
which is its main repository and also houses a conservation department
and offices.
Following the opening of the new ScotlandsPeople Centre, the main method of entry for visitors to NAS search rooms at General Register House is through the Garden Entrance at the west side. Signs indicating the route to this entrance have been erected outside the front of the building.
Which building should I go to?
If you intend to visit the NAS, see our Search rooms page for more information on which building to go to.
