News: New entrance to General Register House, 2007

Due to the building works taking place in and around General Register House on Princes Street, there have been some changes which have implications for readers wishing to visit General Register House, including both the Historical and Legal Search Rooms. The key changes and their implications can be summarised as follows:

Closure of Princes Street entrance to General Register House
The Princes Street entrance to General Register House is now closed until further notice. The main method of entry to the Historical and Legal Search Rooms from Tuesday 18 September 2007 onwards is through the Garden entrance at the rear (west side) of General Register House. The route to this entrance is shown on the plan below and external signs will direct visitors. The front (Princes Street) entrance to General Register House will remain closed. Access for the disabled will continue to be via the side door of General Register House.

Location of Legal Search Room
The Legal Search Room is now located on the first floor of General Register House.

Historical Search Room
The Historical Search Room continues to operate as usual although there are fewer seats available for examining original manuscripts. If you have any queries about this please e-mail enquiries@nas.gov.uk.

Access for the disabled
Access for the disabled continues to be via the side door of General Register House.
