News: Media focuses on NAS documents

Several TV and radio programmes featuring National Archives of Scotland (NAS) documents, and interviews with staff, are due to be broadcast in the New Year.

Digging up Your Roots
A series of six radio programmes about tracing your Scottish ancestors explores many aspects of using archives for genealogy, especially records held by the NAS and by the General Register Office for Scotland.

BBC Radio Scotland at lunchtime on Sundays from 7th January to 11th February.

The Last Duel
A 'Timewatch' documentary about a duel fought between a Fife banker and his client in a field near Kirkcaldy in 1826, and the subsequent murder trial in the High Court. The Crown Office precognition and the trial records in NAS form part of a story with a twist at the end.

BBC2 at 9pm on Friday 9th February.

Patriot Games: the making of the Union
A documentary about the events which led to the Union between England and Scotland in 1707 to mark the start of the 300th anniversary. It features several of the key documents that are held in NAS concerning the making of the historic treaty.
