An inspector calls

From time to time the buildings of the National Archives of Scotland (NAS) are used by film crews. On Monday 17 July, West Register House (WRH) played backdrop to the filming of an Inspector Rebus story, based on Ian Rankin’s novel 'Let it bleed', for STV.

WRH was transformed into a private club, 'The Register'. The new name over the door covered up 'West Register House', while club signage in the polished cases, and potted plants on either side completed the illusion. The actors were filmed from outside, coming and going. There was some initial confusion about which of the uniformed police were the real ones detailed to prevent trouble and which were the actors. All became clear when a character was escorted from the building to a waiting car.
