Guide to the National Archives of Scotland

This guide is the first general source of information on the public records of Scotland published since 1905. It concentrates on the records of the pre-Union Kingdom of Scotland before 1707, the courts, the Register of Sasines, the Register of Deeds and other legal records. The guide gathers the expertise of many members of NAS staff, both past and present. It was published jointly with the Stair Society in 1996. The dustjacket shown is not available with the remaining copies.

Declaration of Arbroath:
limited edition print

Image of limited edition print of Declaration of Arbroath

This limited edition print of the Declaration of Arbroath measures 91 x 68.5 cms (36 x 27 ins). The facsimile was originally produced c1815 by the engraver William Home Lizars (1788-1859). This print was hand printed by the Buick Studios in Northumberland from the original copper plate on 100% cotton rag Fabriano paper.
Only 50 prints are available.

Scottish Archives for Schools resources

The Scottish Archives for Schools (SAfS) project offers schools a series of five printed resource packs and a separate accompanying CD-ROM. Each pack, designed to suit learners within P6 - S2, contains specially selected and interpreted original sources, historical background information, pupil activities, teachers' notes and assessment opportunities. The CD-ROM contains materials from all five packs and digital sound recordings of selected sources. Pupils and teachers can adapt the study units to suit individual needs and to create their own multimedia presentations.
