News: Chocolate sale

From St Andrew's Day until 31 December 2009 we are reducing the price of our commemorative whisky exhibition 'From the Vaults' chocolate bars to £2.50

Whisky Exhibition dark chocolate bar with whisky

Government Records Branch of the National Archives of Scotland (NAS) selects and catalogues records from the Scottish Government and Government agencies, including the records of the Scottish Exchequer, Customs and Excise and the Board of Trade, Companies House. All of these series hold information on the whisky industry in Scotland. They include reference to the Secretary of State for Scotland’s “criminal case file” against the perpetrators of the famous ‘salvage’ operation that took place in the Sound of Eriskay in 1941 when the SS Politician, carrying a large consignment of whisky, ran aground and the cargo was ‘liberated’ from the wreckage by a band of public spirited locals. This event was immortalised in the 1949 film production “Whisky Galore”.

The information contained in these records have been used to create a commemorative chocolate box containing a dark chocolate bar with a delicious whisky truffle filling to mark the history of whisky as part of homecoming Scotland 2009. The whisky exhibition 'From the Vault's chocolate bar is on offer until the end of December 2009 and can be purchased from the ScotlandsPeople shop at the main entrance to HM General Regsiter House from 9.00am to 4.30pm Monday-Friday.

A range of chocolate bars can be purchased from the shop on a variety of historical scottish subjects to collect and make your own unique chocolate library.
